House Republicans spend caucus meeting strategizing how to bring down Kamala Harris

House Republicans held a caucus meeting on Tuesday in which they discussed plans to bring down Vice President Kamala Harris now that she is the likely Democratic nominee for president in 2024.

Politico's Olivia Beavers spoke to members as they left the meeting.

Republicans "were urged by Rep. [Richard] Hudson (R-NC) to focus on the policy instead of Harris," Beavers posted on X.

"Rep. [Doug] LaMalfa (R-CA) got up and talked about how bad her record in California was and argued how they have lots of material to expose who she really is."

During the 2016 election, Republicans held congressional hearings attacking former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the Benghazi Embassy attack and her use of a private email server in some communications.

Then-Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) bragged to Fox host Sean Hannity, "Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee. A select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known that any of that had happened had we not fought to make that happen."

Beavers also posted that Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) trashed Harris in the meeting after she declined to sit behind Benjamin Netanyahu in a speech he's set to make to a joint session of Congress. Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) also refused to sit behind Netanyahu.

Retiring Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) agreed to be the one willing to appear, Beavers said, citing those who were in the room.
