A new group exhibition in Paphos brings the island’s contemporary art scene together to honour the transformation and legacy of a hotel. Curated by Andros Efstathiou, the Metamorphosis exhibition will run from Friday to September 6 at Almyra Boutique Hotel, aiming to redefine the relationship of modern art with architectural buildings.
“How unknown and how well-known to us is the iconic building that was introduced to us in the 1970s as the Paphos Beach Hotel and then, in the late decade of the 2000 as Almyra Boutique Hotel?” ask organisers. “In the years of its transformation the building changed, transformed but it kept firm the idea that created it, hospitality.”
The exhibition, organised by Isnotgallery, takes place within the premises of Almyra Hotel, showcasing the works of 15 artists. The curator, by placing works by these great visual artists seeks to redefine the relationship between the communal non-exhibition spaces and art in the public space. Displayed around the hotel, the artworks open up new conversations on contemporary art, how and where viewers interact with it.
Participating in the exhibition is Giorgos Lappas, Christina Papaioannou, Cacorocks, Haroula Nikolaidou, Konstantinos Stephanou, Andreas Skoufaris, Stavros Kikas, Elena Tsigaridou, Antonis Tziarridis, Theano Giannezi, Sofia Fotiadou, Andros Efstathiou, Panikos Tembriotis, Barnabe and Mariela Bilitsa.
