U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned, MSNBC reported Tuesday.
Cheatle appeared before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Monday at which members of both parties berated her over the failures of the agents at a rally where Donald Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt.
Despite spending decades working her way up the ranks, Republicans attacked Cheatle as a "DEI hire," suggesting she was only hired because she was a woman.

Cheatle was berated at Monday's meeting for being cagey about the reasons the building where the shooter climbed on the roof was not secured or why it didn't have agents on it. Another unanswered question was how the service knew about a "suspicious person" but Trump was allowed to take the stage.
Cheatle said the USSS Inspector General is conducting an investigation and the USSS is also doing it's own internal probe into the failures on July 13 during the attack.
