The BBC has published its annual report amid controversy about the culture and treatment of contestants on Strictly Come Dancing.
Once again, Gary Lineker and Zoe Ball are among the corporation’s top earners, as a result of hosting Match of the Day and Radio 2’s breakfast show respectively.
The corporation has highlighted its successes over the past year and disclosed the pay of its top talent, but focus is likely to be on the storm of negative stories about its flagship show and the current internal BBC investigation.
There are also many more stars who earn huge amounts of money from the BBC, several of them almost certainly more than Lineker and Ball, whose names will be absent.
That is because of a quirk which means the BBC does not have to disclose the salaries of stars who are paid through production companies.
