Famagusta district organisation goes paper-free
The Famagusta district self-governance organization (EOAA) has decided to become completely paper-free, it announced on Tuesday.
Reducing waste, enhancing security and efficiency are the goals behind the move, according to the district organisation head.
In statements the organisation said it took the decision in the interest of “sustainable development and environmental sensitivity, as well as upgrading efficiency and productivity.”
“The transition to the new era begins with the members of the organisation’s council who have abolished the use of printed paper,” the statement said.
Invitations and addenda for meetings of the plenary are henceforth to be sent exclusively in electronic form.
EOAA President Yiannis Karousos stated that apart from the council meetings, this policy will be applied to all departments of the organisation.
The plan envisions “the complete transition to a paperless environment and will include digitization of files and documents […] allowing easy access, storage and management of data with security and convenience.”
Digital signatures will replace traditional handwritten signatures, Karousos said, ensuring authenticity and integrity of documents and speeding up approval processes. Communication and document handling will be done through secure electronic platforms, reducing time and costs, he said.
Staff will attend special training to become fully familiarised with the new digital processes and tools, he added.
