Mumbai: Since Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India coach came to an end after a triumphant sign off with the T20 World Cup, speculations have been rife over which franchise would the former coach join during the Indian Premier League. There were speculation that Dravid would join Kolkata Knight Riders as Gautam Gambhir has become India head coach, but a report on TOI suggests that is not the case. The report claims that Dravid would return to Rajasthan Royals as the head coach in IPL 2025. While there is no confirmation on this, it would be interesting to see what happens.
“Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is round the corner,” a reliable source told TOI.
Dravid has had a successful stint as India coach where he helped the side become No. 1 in Tests and ODIs. Apart from that, he masterminded India’s Test series win against Australia at home.
There is also no clarity over will the franchise retain Kumar Sangakkara, who has been the Director of Cricket at the Royals.
Meanwhile, the Indian team embarked on a new journey under Gautam Gambhir as the Men in Blue departed for Sri Lankan tour from Mumbai on Monday. India will play three T20Is scheduled from July 27, July 28, and July 30, followed by a three-match ODI series starting on August 1. The Pallekele International Stadium will host the T20I leg of the series, while the R Premadasa Stadium will host the 50-over matches.
The spotlight would certainly be on Gambhir.
