Red Sox Wrap: Rockies Outlast Boston In Extra-Innings Rollercoaster
The Boston Red Sox opened a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies with an eventful 9-8 extra-innings loss at Coors Field on Monday night.
With the loss, Boston falls to 53-46 while Colorado improves to 37-64.

Boston took an early punch from Colorado when Tanner Houck scuffled through the fourth inning at Coors Field.
The Rockies met the Red Sox All-Star with four runs that started with a two-run homer off the bat of Charlie Blackmon. Boston had to respond with fight to reset momentum, especially entering Monday’s contest off of a three-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers.
Indeed, the Red Sox had an answer.
Getting the start against left-hander Austin Gomber, Jamie Westbrook slugged the Red Sox within a run with a three-run blast to left center field. Jarren Duran added to his league-leading triples total with No. 11. He came around to score when Rob Refsnyder tied things up with a base hit to left.
Boston battled back and remained evened up with Colorado into the seventh inning. Josh Winckowski caught a tough break when a sinker was called off the plate on the pitch before Jacob Stallings tallied an RBI double. Luckily for Boston, Red Sox catcher Connor Wong had an answer with a solo shot in the eighth inning.
The teams battled to extra innings when Dominic Smith turned around a 99 mph fastball for a double to score Duran in the tenth inning. Rafael Devers smacked a liner to score another run and add meaningful insurance for the Red Sox.
Unfortunately, shades of Saturday’s loss to the Dodgers came back around when the Rockies tied the game on a Sam Hilliard two-run blast.
Wilyer Abreu swung the pendulum back to the Red Sox with an RBI single in the 12th inning. Ultimately, the Rockies delivered the final blow with a pair of runs to walk-off Boston, marking a fourth consecutive loss for the Red Sox.
