KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- BNSF is investigating following a train derailment overnight in Ottawa, Kansas.
The Franklin County, Kansas Sheriff's Office said the incident happened in the area of Osborne Terrace and Louisiana Terrace, just west of Ottawa.
The sheriff's office along with Franklin County Emergency Management has been in contact with BNSF and says there is no threat to the public and no injuries have been reported.
The only cargo spilled was a large amount of corn, according to the sheriff's office.
BNSF crews will be in the area for at least another day to repair the track with cleanup taking longer.
People are being asked to avoid the area at this time due to the large amount of heavy trucks and equipment parked on the roadside.
