LENXA, KS (KSNT) - President Joe Biden took to social media Sunday to announce his withdrawal from the 2024 Presidential Race.
We spoke to Kansas' Democratic Party Chair, Jeanna Repass, on the party's thoughts on the President's announcement, as well as what they are feeling regarding the next steps in the race.
"My feelings are both bittersweet. On the one hand, the bitterness comes because we have had a great president, a man who has served this country with honor for 50 years," Repass said. "His deliverables are unapparelled in recent history. So, I'm sad. I'm sad to see someone who spent so much of their lives finally stepping out of the spotlight."
But looking forward to the party's future in the race, Repass says the sweet part is how excited she is for current Vice President, Kamala Harris. Biden has endorsed Harris in hopes to become their nominee.
"And I think this is a wonderful time, whoever comes out of the Democratic side, it's an exciting time as well. "
Repass says it's important to remember, although Harris has been endorsed by Biden, she is not yet officially running for president. She will still have to be entered into nominations that the delegates will then choose.
