U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris launched her campaign for president on Sunday after her running mate stepped aside, and it has reportedly led to the biggest fundraising day for Democrats all year.
President Joe Biden announced earlier in the day that he would stand down from his political campaign, which cleared the way for Harris to secure endorsements from numerous Democratic lawmakers. One endorsement from a singer was considered the most important one she got all day.
But there's even more to the story, according to nonprofit fundraising platform ActBlue.

"UPDATE: As of 9pm ET, grassroots supporters have raised $46.7 million through ActBlue following Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign launch," the group said on Sunday. "This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle."
It continued, "Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election."
Dem House insider Aaron Fritschner wrote, "holy eff."
Molly Jong-Fast, a special correspondent for Vanity Fair, simply wrote, "Oh."
@RussOnPolitics chimed in, "Dems are in more array than ever!"
"ActBlue reports record day of donations. Dems got a jolt of rejuvenation today," the account added. "It's what we've been waiting for. And wait until Biden speaks to the nation. Another jolt! And then when Kamala does her first rally. Another jolt! You get the idea."
@BryanStarnes1 just added, "Seems like a good sign for [Harris]."
