The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun has enjoined community leaders in riverine areas of the state to protect education infrastructure in their communities for the benefit of school-age children. He reiterated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s plan to build more schools and technical skill acquisition centres, especially in rural areas, and identified underserved communities.
The Commissioner stated this during a recent visit in the company of Mr Tolani Sule, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education and Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals for schools in the riverine areas of Ojo and Oto Awori areas of Lagos State.
He assured the community leaders that the request for more education infrastructure will be addressed in line with the Administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda and the Ministry’s crusade not to leave any child behind. Given the need to empower the youths, a Skill Acquisition Centre will be considered for the communities to stem rural-urban migration and provide jobs for the youths.
Alli-Balogun, however, called on the community leaders to support government interventions by ensuring existing infrastructure is protected against theft and any form of vandalisation, just as he appreciated the efforts of the Headteachers and the dedication of the school teachers, which ensures teaching and learning continues in the two schools visited.
Baale of Taafi Awori, Mr. Babatunde Wasiu Ilufemiloye assured the team that they will ensure proper usage of the infrastructure and that it will also be secured.
