Golf fans fume at coverage of The Open as downpour makes it like ‘watching through a bathroom window’

ARMCHAIR golf fans blasted the blurry viewing from rain-hit Royal Troon.

Observers likened TV coverage of The Open day three to “watching through a bathroom window”.

TV viewers reckoned they needed to be eagle-eyed to follow the action

Fans’ admiration for players and spectators in the downpour was mixed with criticism of the murky offering on their screens.

And viewers pleaded with camera operators to wipe away their smears… from lenses.

Some fans even reckoned towels would solve the problem of cameras becoming like “untreated windshields”.

Ireland’s Shane Lowry and English ace Daniel Brown fought to stay in the leading pack amid terrible weather.

But some viewers were transfixed by the dodgy, drizzly vision served up on TV.

One posted: “Hey Open camera guys: it rains in Scotland often. Wipe the damn rain off the lens so we can see. How many years have you been doing this?”

Another asked: “Can someone PLEASE get these tower cameras some towels? “

But a third observer had a slightly more high-tech suggestion.

He said: “Hey NBC, can you suggest to the camera crew at The Open to put Rain•X on ALL the camera lenses!!? No, seriously, it’s like an untreated windshield and it’s just blurry, smeared water on the lens.”

A fourth fan commented: “Rain now so bad at The Open that it’s like watching every shot through a bathroom window. Thank goodness for that HD TV package.”

Perhaps, in this case, HD stands for Heavy Downpour…

One viewer, however, congratulated himself for being spot-on with his choice of viewing venue.

He posted: “Man am I happy to be watching the Open Championship in bed as it’s pouring rain at Royal Troon.”

But he was sympathetic towards windswept watchers at the coast-side Links course at Scotland’s Firth of Clyde in Ayrshire.

From his own cosy vantage point inside, the viewer posted: “Looks miserable out there. Props to the people in attendance toughing it out.”
