SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A candy store along Broadway in the Spa City has been dishing out nostalgia and homemade sweets for more than 20 years.
“We offer anything that's from the penny candy–that's now a dime–to fancy truffles that we can't keep in the store because people love them all the time," said Saratoga Candy Co. owner Dawn Oesch.
While retro treats like candy cigarettes and old-fashioned glass soda bottles will catch your eye, it's homemade candy that really sets the below ground shop apart from the rest.
“It's chocolate peanut butter," Oesch said of the favorite fudge flavor offered. "I've been making that the longest, since I was 16, so I’ve perfected it.”
Speaking of perfect, how about a "Superfecta Snack Pack?" There is no shortage of horse racing themed treats at the shop. You'd be the MVP of the Pick Six Picnic Paddock if you were to bring a goodie bag, and it may give you the edge on your bet.
"Horseshoes that bring you good luck at the track., all made in chocolate,” Oesch described.
You can also stock up on a Saratoga tradition: The Peppermint Pig. Popular around the holidays, families crack open a hard candy. After taking a piece each, snackers reflect on their year to bring good luck for the months ahead.
