PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A person died on Thursday after being struck by an ambulance on I-84 while on the side of the road with a flat tire, according to Oregon State Police.
Authorities responded to the crash near milepost 54 in Hood River County around 12:45 a.m.
"The preliminary investigation indicated a westbound Ford Econoline AMR Ambulance, operated by Amanda Hancock (42) of Benton City (WA), left the lane of travel and struck a Chevrolet Camaro, operated by Geraldean Edna Martin (55) of Portland, while it was disabled on the side of the roadway with a flat tire. The Chevrolet operator was outside of the vehicle at the time of the collision," OSP said.
Martin was declared dead at the scene. Hancock, as well as her two passengers, were uninjured in the crash, police said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
