PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Salem police arrested a second suspect involved in a shooting near a storage facility where detectives were conducting a motorcycle theft investigation, authorities announced Thursday.
During the investigation at the storage facility, along 22nd Street, two motorcyclists drove near the business, with one motorcyclist firing a gun into the air in plain view of the officers.
The motorcyclists sped away from police, and after a police chase, one rider -- 25-year-old Zayn Bristow -- was arrested near Lancaster Dr. and Rickey St. SE after he hit a curb and crashed the motorcycle.
Up until Wednesday, the second suspect was on the loose.
Authorities later found 28-year-old Brian English July 17 hiding outside of a home on B Street Northeast. English tried to flee police but was arrested a short time later with help from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office K9 team.
Police said they found a backpack with a handgun in the area where they found English.
He was arrested on several charges including unlawful use of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, menacing, and reckless endangering.
The arrests of the shooting suspects come after authorities arrested three people involved in the motorcycle theft investigation on July 11.
The investigation led detectives to a storage facility where they found one of the stolen motorcycles along with the three suspects, including two adults and a juvenile.
Authorities said the suspects tried to escape police in a vehicle but were ultimately arrested.
After searching the vehicle and the storage unit, police seized a short-barreled shotgun, a handgun, body armor, and several pieces of stolen mail.
Authorities arrested 18-year-old Zakiry Davis, and 32-year-old Natalie Hefley who were both taken to Marion County Jail on motor vehicle theft charges.
The 15-year-old suspect, who was not publicly identified, was also arrested and taken to the Marion County Juvenile Department.
Bristow was taken to Marion County Jail on several charges including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle, felon in possession of body armor, elude, reckless driving, mail theft, and identity theft.
