This coming Saturday we get a great card from Japan, as Teiken put on a brilliant world title triple header, which also includes one of the rising stars of Japanese boxing taking a big step up in class. With such a great show, which is being screened around the world with Sky and ESPN showing it in the UK and US respectively.
On paper the most competitive bout, from a betting perspective, is a bout for the vacant WBO Flyweight title as the once beaten Anthony Olascuaga (6-1, 4) takes on the experienced Riku Kano (22-4-2, 11) [加納陸]. Olascuaga, fighting in his second title fight and 8th career bout, is seen as the betting favourite, priced at 3/10 with most UK bookies, whilst Kano is a 14/5 under-do; whilst the draw is best priced at 18/1.
Not only is Olascuaga favoured to win, but he's favoured to win inside the distance, with odds of 4/6 to win by KO/TKO or DQ, and 4/1 to win by decision or technical decision. As for Kano he is 5/1 to win a decision or 15/2 to score an early win. Given the odds on a win for Olascuaga inside the distance, it should be clear this bout isn't expected to go the distance, with a price of 4/9 on it ending before the schedule, and 7/4 on it going the scheduled 12.
On paper maybe the most interesting is a serious step up in class for former kick boxing icon Tenshin Nasukawa (3-0, 1) [那須川天心] as he faces American fighter Jonathan Rodriguez (17-2-1, 7) in a scheduled 10 rounder. Despite the bout being a very credible step up for Tenshin, the Japanese star is the clear favourite, priced at 1/5 to pick up the win, whilst Rodriguez is available at 9/2 and the draw, again, is 16/1.
Interestingly Tenshin is 5/6 to win inside the distance, and 2/1 to win a decision, whilst a decision win for Rodriguez is 8/1 and a stoppage for the visitor is 10/1. As with the Flyweight title bout, this is not expected to go the distance, with odds of 4/6 on it ending early, and 3/2 on it going 10.
One of the others bouts on this card will see WBO Super Flyweight champion Kosei Tanaka(20-1, 11) [田中恒成] make his first defense of his 4th world title as he faces dangerous Mexican challenger Jonathan Rodriguez (25-2-1, 17). Tanaka is best priced at 1/9 to win, odds that really don't sum up how dangerous this fight is for the talented but flawed Tanaka. Rodriguez is 13/2 to win, and that’s a really good price for a very live under-dog who has wins against Felipe Orucute, Julian Yedras, a competitive loss to Jerwin Ancajas and a recent draw against Israel Gonzalez. The draw for this one is as high at 26/1
As for the method of victory, Tanaka is 5/6 to win by decision and 7/5 to win by stoppage. For Rodriguez, the odds are 12/1 for the stoppage and 14/1 for a decision win. Notably this is the only bout expected to go the distance, with odds of 4/6 on this going 12 rounds, and 6/5 on ending early.
The main event of the card will see WBC Bantamweight champion Junto Nakatani (27-0, 20) [中谷 潤人] take on mandatory challenger Vincent Astrolabio (19-4, 14), from the Philippines in a bout that is expected to deliver serious fireworks. Despite the danger that Astrolabio brings to the ring, Nakatani is seen as a significant favourite, best priced at 1/20 to win, showing just how well regarded the now 3-weight world champion is. Astrolabio, a legitimate contender and a dangerous puncher at Bantamweight, is best priced at 15/1.The draw can be backed at a frankly insane 44/1!
Nakatani is 1/3 to win inside the distance, and build on his excellent stoppage win over Alexander Santiago earlier this year, and 16/5 to win a decision. Astrolabio is 22/1 to win inside the distance and a massive 34/1 to win a decision. Given those odds it's no surprise to see that the bout isn't expected to go the distance, with 2/7 on the bout ending early and 11/4 on the bout going the championship distance.
