Jordan Smith: First Hibs TV Interview!

Jordan Smith became the Hibees fourth signing of the summer transfer window, penning a two-year deal until 2026!

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has spent the majority of his time at English Premier League side, Nottingham Forest with various loan spells down south.

Arriving in Leith after a year at Stockport County, Smith sat down with Hibs TV in his first interview with the Club – explaining how the move initially came about.

“I am delighted to be here, it was something that came about pretty quickly as these things always do. As soon as I learned there was any sort of interest, I was keen to see how far it went and get this thing over the line.

“I am really happy to be at such a big club. It has been a whirlwind, you learn that there is interest then you have to explore it. Luckily enough I knew a certain David Marshall – who I played against down south – he was the one that picked up the phone and wanted to make this happen.

“As soon as someone like that comes calling, it was very difficult to say no. I came up on Wednesday and had a quick look around and I was taken aback by the level of the facilities, the fantastic city and the size of the fanbase.”

Smith highlighted the size of the Club as another big factor in his decision to join and admits he has been impressed with what he has seen since arriving through the door.

“I had no idea what to expect coming north of the border, but I have been really impressed – the Club is run really well, and the facilities are fantastic as I have said before.

“For the short time I have been here, I have felt a real focus and intent around the Club and that has been translated to the positive start to the season on the pitch.

“Everyone is pulling in one direction, that is what everyone wants – anything I can do to help that would be fantastic.

“I had 20 odd years at Nottingham Forest and a stint at Stockport last year, luckily enough I had success at both of those teams – so hopefully that can continue here.”

The shot-stopper signed on a two-year deal till 2026 and will provide healthy competition for Joe Bursik and Max Boruc in the goalkeeping department.

“It is nice to join on a two-year deal, it shows great backing from the Club and I am delighted with that.

“As far as I am concerned, the lads have been back in a month and this is my first day. So I certainly won’t be resting on my laurels, I am going to do the best I can, as quickly as I can, to show what I am all about.

“I am going to try and help increase the level in any way shape or form. As a worst-case scenario, I am going to make sure that we get the best version of every goalkeeper.

“Whoever gets that shirt and plays – we need to make sure that we are on our game and earn the right to play. That is what I love about football, nothing is given and everything is earned.

“Hopefully I can help add to the culture and make sure it is a winning culture.”
