"We're excited to be coming to Norton Disney and delve deeper into its history," says Tim Taylor, Time Team's creator and series producer. "Every dig presents a new opportunity to uncover hidden stories and connect with the past. Norton Disney is no exception, and we're eager to see what discoveries await us."
Fresh off the back of their recent month long dig at the iconic Sutton Hoo, Time Team assures viewers that the Norton Disney excavation will offer a similar intriguing glimpse into the town's heritage. With its focus on local history and community involvement, the dig aims to engage residents and enthusiasts alike in the excitement of archaeological exploration.
University of Lincoln's Professor Carenza Lewis, renowned archaeologist and long time member of Time Team, emphasises the importance of community involvement on digs: "Engaging the local community is essential for fostering a sense of ownership and pride in our shared heritage. By involving residents in the excavation process, we not only gain valuable insights but also strengthen the bonds between people and the places they call home."
Richard Parker, secretary of the Norton Disney History and Archaeology Group says: “There is now a chance to more fully reveal the town's intriguing medieval past. The Disney family dominated the area for 400 years and really left their mark. The Disneys were Medieval knights and courtiers to the King, and we would love to find out more evidence of their time here .”
