'Don't fall for that': Whoopi calls out GOP efforts to 'humanize' Donald Trump

Donald Trump's granddaughter appeared at the Republican National Convention, where she claimed that all of the negative stories people have heard about him were wrong and that he was really a very humane and caring man.

On Thursday morning, "The View's" Whoopi Goldberg encouraged viewers not to "fall for it."

In the third week of discussion and coverage of Joe Biden's age, health and ability to win in 2024 as a result of his age, Goldberg complained that she, like many people around the country, voted to support Biden in the primary. Now, others are trying to force them out without consulting voters.

"How dare you make this decision for me? If you want to know what I think as a Democrat, somebody should ask us as opposed to telling us what they're going to do," said Goldberg.

Goldberg was gone for most of last week with COVID-19. It was her second bout with the virus, and Biden was diagnosed with his second as well on Wednesday, thus removing him from the campaign trail again.

"I can barely remember anybody's name. I don't know who they are," Goldberg joked about her colleagues. "So, I'm not going to take any issues because there are times when I can't remember stuff. There are times when I go for a word, and it's not there, and I'm just not going to go and decide that's the problem. If he falls low in this next debate, I'll consider changing my outlook."

Her co-hosts pushed back, but Goldberg said that she doesn't find such a move to be "risky" because no president is an island in decisions and work.

"I believe that Joe has what it takes to get stuff done," Goldberg continued, noting she'd known the president for about 30-40 years.

"Now, for me, I have a lot of faith in the American people, and I don't know very many men who want to be talked to the way that this man [Trump] has been talking to men in his audience," Goldberg said of Trump. "I don't know any women, and I know his grandchild was up on the thing, and they're trying to humanize him and change your idea about who this guy is. Don't fall for that."

"So, my belief is in us as voters who want an America that we can -- we can -- we are always going to fight about stuff in this country, because it's not a country of one person," she concluded. "It is a country of many thoughts, that's why there are elections."
