Trump suggests 'canceling tomorrow's speech' in bait-and-switch of RNC base
Would Donald Trump actually miss the ballon-dropping, red, white and blue confetti-infused fanfare that is the final speech given by the presidential nominee at the the Republican National Convention?
The former president's fundraising email Wednesday afternoon might lead supporters to think so.
"Canceling tomorrow’s speech?" is the subject line of a message from his joint fundraising committee.
Fortunately, for MAGA supporters and the more than 2,500 delegates gathered at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, the body of the email from Trump assuages those' fears — proclaiming "I WOULD NEVER!"
"Tomorrow night, I will lay out my vision to UNITE OUR COUNTRY AND MAKE IT GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!" said the email from Trump National Committee, which benefits Donald J. Trump for President 2024, Inc. and the Republican National Committee.
Then, the email continues, "We’ll cut taxes, end inflation, and PUT MORE MONEY IN YOUR POCKET! We’ll end our humiliation overseas and bring HONOR back to our country."
The email goes on to prompt readers to give "expert advice" on what should Trump should say to unite the country, linking to a fundraising page with a text box to put suggestions for his acceptance speech.
Pre-population donation totals range from $24 and $47 up to $3,300.
It's not the first time Trump used the bait-and-switch fundraising tactic.
Before the Iowa caucuses, Trump’s campaign blasted out fundraising text messages that said “President Trump: Suspend my campaign?”
And on New Hampshire's primary election day, Trump asked if he should "end my campaign" or "drop out of the race."
Both fundraising emails, like Wednesday's, assured "PRO-TRUMP PATRIOTS" that he'd never abandon them.
Trump's newly announced running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) is scheduled to conclude Wednesday's speeches, and customarily, the presidential nominee would have the last word the final night of the convention.
Trump, with a bandaged ear due his injury suffered during Saturday's assassination attempt, and Vance have appeared at the convention but not yet given speeches.
