The Columbus Clippers received some timely offense from a few unlikely contributors on Sunday. Myles Straw led the way with a four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with two doubles.

Jose Tena also impressed, going 3-for-5 with a double and a home run.

Zac Facia, having just been promoted straight to Columbus from Lake County in an org-filler move, responded by homering in his Triple-A debut.

Juan Brito went 1-for-3 with a hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly while George Valera singled and walked and Raynel Delgado walked, was hit by a pitch and scored a pair of runs.

Starting pitcher Will Dion left the game after just ²⁄₃ of an inning. Don’t worry, he’s fine. There was an extended rain delay that happened in the first inning and ended his day early.

Conner Gillespie impressively came in in long relief and threw 5 ¹⁄₃ scoreless innings with five strikeouts, one hit allowed and two walks to earn the win.

Andrew Misiaszek almost blew the game with four runs allowed in ²⁄₃ of an inning, but Tanner Burns saved the day with a scoreless inning and Anthony Gose worked around a solo shot to earn his eighth save.

Akron RubberDucks 6, Reading Fighting Phils 7

C.J. Kayfus continues to do C.J. Kayfus things. The talented slugger went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, raising his OPS to 1.037 in the process.

Milan Tolentino was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Aaron Bracho also had a huge game, going 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, which gave Akron a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth inning. Bracho has been hot lately and is on a 10-game hitting streak. Kody Huff also homered and walked in four plate appearances.

Unfortunately, Bradley Hanner was unable to hold the lead as he failed to get an out in the bottom of the ninth inning while surrendering four hits and two runs to get his third blown save and the loss.

Starting pitcher Tommy Mace allowed four runs on six hits in 5 ²⁄₃ innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Three of the runs allowed came on two home runs.

Lake County Captains 4, Lansing Lugnuts 6

Box Score · Captains fall to 51-35

The bottom of the lineup did all the damage for Lake County on Sunday. Maick Collado went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk to account for three of the runs.

The other run was a solo shot from back-up catcher Johnny Tincher.

The only other Captain to reach base safely twice was Jorge Burgos, who went 1-for-3 with a walk.

Starting pitcher Zach Jacobs allowed three runs (two earned) in 3 ²⁄₃ innings pitched on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Matt Jachec was touched up for three runs in 2 ¹⁄₃ innings of long relief, although just one of them was earned. He struck out three and allowed four hits.

Jake Miller, Jay Driver and Zane Morehouse closed out the game with three scoreless innings of relief to give the Captains a chance to fight back.

Lynchburg Hillcats 0, Delmarva Shorebirds 9

Lynchburg was missing its top two players as Jaison Chourio and Ralphy Velazquez were busy impressing at the Futures Game (Chourio had an RBI single and Velazquez walked and crushed bombs in BP).

There were no offensive highlights as no Hillcats reached base twice or even had an extra base hit in a three-hit shutout loss.

Starting pitcher Jack Jasiak allowed two runs on six hits in three innings. Things stayed quiet until the eighth inning when Robert Wegielnik allowed a whopping six unearned runs in ¹⁄₃ of an inning. Juan Benjamin had two errors in the frame.
