Lafayette, LA (KLFY) – Mayor-President Boulet released a statement after Donald Trump was whisked off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after apparent gunshots rang through the crowd.
According to the Associated Press, Trump was showing off a chart of border crossings during his last rally before the Republican National Convention begins on Monday when bangs started ringing through the crowd.
The Republican presidential nominee could be seen extending his right hand toward his face. According to the Associated Press, there appeared to be blood on his face.
"I am deeply disheartened and have been reflecting on the events that transpired yesterday afternoon in Pennsylvania. My prayers are with former President Trump, the families of those who lost their lives, and all who were injured in this tragic event.
We should all be able to gather peacefully, especially when exercising our political freedoms, without the fear of violence occurring.
Now more than ever, it's crucial that we embrace unity and civility, and reaffirm our American values of democracy. May God bless America."
