Dreams of life on Mars: From settlement creation efforts to compatibility assessments

The depiction of interplanetary life, illustrating human existence on other planets, is no longer solely a theme confined to science fiction films. A quick look at projects planning and designing habitats on Mars, led by scientists evaluating conditions for the first humans, underscores a genuine pursuit of interplanetary life.

Many science fiction films revolve around scenarios where humans encounter extraterrestrial beings possessing vastly different knowledge or attain interplanetary life through their own knowledge. However, such scenarios often depict human interaction with extraterrestrial beings as implausible.

While artistic concepts, including science fiction films, stem largely from human concerns, they have been adapted into real projects striving to achieve the dream of interplanetary life, where human concerns, previously the subject of art, are reduced to human self-interest as the sole determinant.

One such project is Elon Musk’s effort to establish a settlement on the surface of Mars.

Recent findings by scientists indicate that Mars has a dry, desert-like surface, with an atmosphere composed of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon, and minimal oxygen, making breathing impossible for humans.

However, according to The New York Times, SpaceX, a giant in aerospace technology industries, has made “reaching Mars” one of its main goals, with Elon Musk, the company’s owner, instructing its specialists last year to begin the planning and detailing process of a city on Mars.

Several teams are concurrently working on this project. Initial results indicate that constructing dome-shaped houses for the first inhabitants and designing space suits to protect against Martian conditions are part of this plan.

The mobilization of experts to assess the conditions for the first inhabitants and the possibility of reproducing and forming the first Martian generation are also integral parts of this project.

The New York Times continues to claim that Elon Musk has donated sperm to establish his own Martian species and has told his employees to expect one million people to live on this planet within 20 years.

According to this report, the 53-year-old Musk described his wealth creation as “living” on Mars and said he wanted to die on Mars.

This is despite NASA’s mission, which ended last Saturday, testing how life on Mars causes stress and experiments on human crews.

Despite all these efforts, the fact remains that no human has yet gone to Mars, which has somewhat undermined the feasibility and credibility of realizing the dream of life on Mars.
