Amnesty International: Over 350,000 worldwide demand Taliban to respect human rights

Amnesty International reports that over 354,000 people worldwide have signed their petition calling for the Taliban to respect and protect human rights.

This organization called on Friday, July 12th, for continued efforts to hold the Taliban accountable and ensure justice in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International stressed the ongoing advocacy for human rights protection in Afghanistan, citing a powerful demonstration of global solidarity with 354,847 signatures collected urging the current regime of Taliban in Afghanistan to respect and safeguard human rights.

The UN Mission in Afghanistan recently released a report criticizing the Ministry of Virtue and Vice’s record, calling it “a violator of human rights and fundamental freedoms of citizens.” According to UNAMA, Ministry of Virtue and Vice officials have acted arbitrarily at least 1,033 times.

The organization stated, “With the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan, we must continue our joint call for accountability and justice in the country.”

Human rights organizations assert that the Taliban has instituted gender apartheid in Afghanistan by excluding women from public life.

Advocates, through the collection of hundreds of thousands of signatures worldwide, are pressing the Taliban to respect human rights and uphold the fundamental rights of the Afghan people, particularly women. Meanwhile, the Taliban considers its policies towards women as an internal Afghan matter and dismisses these demands as interference in their religious affairs.

The contrasting viewpoints from international organizations and Taliban authorities underscore the ongoing complexities and challenges in upholding human rights standards in Afghanistan.
