EASTENDERS fans have been left speculating that one of the show’s most popular character from the early noughties could be due for a sensational return.
Hot on the news that show icon Chrissie Watts, played by Tracy Ann Oberman, is due to head back to Walford, fans have now been pleading to get one of their favourites back on the Square in time for the show’s 40th anniversary.
Fans are hoping that a Vicki Fowler return is in the works[/caption]The iconic Vicki Fowler, played by Scarlett Alice Johnson, is the daughter of Dirty Den and Michelle Fowler.
Vicki appeared in the BBC soap between 2003 and 2004 and despite clocking up just under 200 episodes, she has become somewhat of a legacy character among the EastEnders fanbase.
She is most well-known for her famous American accent which over the course of her time on the show slipped into being a British one to match her East End counterparts in a bizarre move.
One of Vicki’s most popular scenes saw her rebel as a young adult as she screamed to have more freedom after confessing that she didn’t “drink, smoke or have wild sex” when she went out with her pals.
With the return of another Watts family member on the cards, fans have suggested that it is only a matter of time before Vicki makes a grand return to the soap.
Commenting on Reddit, one fan said: “Anyone else miss the watts in Eastenders only one left is Sharon maybe they should cast more distant Watts family I wouldn’t mind seeing Vicki returning.”
It led to another viewer to add: “I think bringing Vicky back could be good. As long as they don’t try and make her do an accent she’ll be fine.
“But it’s been so long they could even bring in a new actress..”
A third was on the same page regarding Vicki’s accent as they penned: “Bring back Vicki! Just without that accent.”
As a fourth was left convinced she would be back in time for the soap’s big birthday, stating: “I’m thinking she’s going to make an appearance next year at some point for the 40th anniversary.”
Their guesses could prove correct with the soap’s Executive Producer, Chris Clenshaw, recently confessing that a slew of character returns are on the horizon.
He told The Sun: “As we head towards our 40th year, I think the nostalgic element means a lot.
“Into the autumn and the end of the year, we’ve got quite a few treats coming up.”
Asked if that meant a return for long-departed characters, Chris replied: “Maybe. It all depends on the story and where the characters are.
THE beloved British soap has been captivating audiences for decades.
EastEnders follows the lives of the residents of Walford as they navigate love, loss, family drama, and community struggles.
Here’s the latest on:
“But it has to come from character, it has to come from story.”
Asked if he had been planting hints in scripts, Chris added: “It would depend when they’re looking back from, but probably.
“The 40th has been in the works for quite some time and Christmas is well under way.
“In the story office there is a board and it all connects.
“I compare it to a tapestry board, everything has to fit together.”
