It's time for one of the most beloved American holidays of the year: Shark Week. We've put together everything you need to know about where to watch Shark Week, whether you have cable or are looking to live stream the entire week.
Shark Week is back for its 36th year on Discovery Channel, this time with John Cena serving as host. Shark Week has become an iconic cable mainstay known for providing viewers with exciting and informative shark-related content. Each night features three hours of coverage, adding up to about 21 hours total of new Shark Week content. Plus, the rest of the week is chock-full of older classic shark-related specials.
We're halfway through Shark Week now, and so far, some of the top programs have included "Jaws vs. Leviathan," "Big Shark Energy," and "6000 LB Shark." There are still lots of specials to come, including "Monsters of Oz," "The Real Sharknado," and the Shark Week finale, "Mothersharker: Hammer Time." It's not too late to get caught up either since plenty of the specials are available to stream on-demand if you missed them live.
Whether you're a diehard Shark Week enthusiast or you're interested in checking it out for the first time, we've got you covered when it comes to tuning in. Keep reading for full Shark Week details, including a look at John Cena in his new role.
Shark Week airs on the Discovery Channel at 8 p.m. ET in the US from July 7 to 13. If you don't have cable, you can catch the live streams through Max or Sling TV.
Max will be your cheapest option today. Subscriptions start at $9.99 a month, and the streaming service shows select live TV across various Warner Bros. Discovery properties, including several sporting events and some CNN coverage. You can also find Shark Week offerings on-demand here if you happen to miss a night. If you're looking for a more elaborate live TV cable-alternative, Sling TV's Sling Blue plan also live streams the Discovery Channel. Subscriptions start at $40 a month, but you can usually get about half off your first month if you're a new subscriber.
If you'll be traveling outside the US during any part of Shark Week, you can still access your subscriptions using a VPN. Short for virtual private networks, VPNs allow you to change your device's virtual location to keep up with all of your usual websites and apps from anywhere. Plus, they're instant ways to boost your online privacy. This recommendation will be best for Americans who are simply traveling abroad at the moment since the services we've highlighted today require US forms of payment.
Our go-to suggestion for the VPN-curious is ExpressVPN. It's beginner-friendly, so you don't need to worry about a learning curve, and it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can find all the details in our ExpressVPN review, and keep reading to learn how to use it.
While you'll have to tune in to see exactly what Shark Week has in store this year, Discovery released a brief trailer with John Cena at the end of May. Check out the full video below:
