TOPEKA (KSNT) - City Councilmember Spencer Duncan discussed the Westover murder, property taxes, the new city manager and a new tree trimming ordinance on the 27 News Morning Show on Wednesday.
Duncan discussed a petition calling for a public vote before raising property taxes and what the city could do for property tax relief. Duncan said the city should consider budget cuts and holding property taxes steady. He mentioned a property tax rebate program the council passed last year. Duncan said he'd like to expand the property tax rebate program.
"While this petition has good heart, it's not the right vehicle to get us to the destination," Duncan said.
Duncan mentioned the new City Manager Robert Perez who took the position in the last week of June.
"He has a vision which is one of the reasons we hired him and he's already working on ways to put that vision into place," Duncan said.
27 News asked Duncan what he thought about the individual in the Westover murder case not yet being charged. Duncan said from the city's perspective the police did their job and will continue the investigation.
"I'm very confident that the police got on this very fast and took the appropriate actions," Duncan said.
