Speaking on Capital Breakfast, James said: “It’s written right but now we’re doing rewrites. So we have to, we have to remove some time, we have to change some bits around.
“So we’ve been doing that, it’s quite tough because Ruth’s in Sister Act over in the West End at the minute, and I’m doing The Constituent at the Old Vic.
“So we’ve been doing quite a bit of writing in dressing rooms and things like that. And then both looking at each other being quite tired from the plays but we’ll be back at it tomorrow. Back at it Friday. I hope by Friday…it will be done and finished this Friday.”
It comes after a BBC boss previously revealed they haven’t been allowed to see the highly-confidential script.
The head of BBC comedy Jon Petrie said: “They are really keeping it under wraps and don’t want people to see it outside of their very, very tight circle until they’re 100% certain of it.”
He continued to tell the Daily Mail: “I think it will be hard when they are filming it because it’s such a huge show and everyone will want to watch, everyone in all the locations where it’s shot, it will be obvious what’s being shot.”
Ruth Jones and James Corden previously revealed how they’d penned the special, confirming The Sun’s original story.
Fans have been left on a cliffhanger since 2019 when Ruth’s character Nessa proposed to Smithy.
And it seems they’ll finally know what the answer is as James said: “We’re going to wrap up a lot of loose ends.”
