Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has once again emphasized the need for “bold and decisive” actions to address global climate change, which has claimed hundreds of lives worldwide due to heatwaves this year.
Guterres stated in a message on his social media platform X that the world requires “bold and decisive” climate actions to improve temperature conditions.
According to the UN Secretary-General, “We cannot accept a future where the wealthy are protected in air-conditioned bubbles while the rest of humanity suffers under deadly weather conditions.”
Previously, Mr. Guterres urged the international community to take immediate action on climate change.
According to a report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Afghanistan is the sixth most vulnerable country to climate change globally and is expected to experience normal conditions by 2030.
The organization has warned of the devastating impacts of climate change in Afghanistan.
It is noted that excessive heatwaves and destructive floods are cited as causes of global climate change, claiming hundreds of lives in recent months.
Addressing climate change requires concerted global efforts, proactive policies, and equitable actions to mitigate its impact on vulnerable populations like those in Afghanistan. As the world grapples with increasingly severe weather events, urgent international cooperation is essential to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and the planet’s future sustainability.
