A WOMAN has slammed her parents for giving her an ’embarrassing’ name that makes her day-to-day life extremely awkward.
The young woman explained that not only is her name constantly mispronounced, but it also gets her weird stares, even when at the doctors.
A woman has revealed that her teenage parents gave her the worst name[/caption]The anonymous woman, who took to social media to open about her moniker pain, explained that her father picked her name when he was just a teenager.
Sharing her story, the woman, who is named Dystini, explained all on Reddit, leaving many open-mouthed.
Posting on the tragedeigh thread, Dystini revealed: “My name is Dystini, pronounced like Destiny, just spelled the worst way possible.
“Apparently it was supposed to be Destinee, but clearly this spelling made much more sense.”
Unsure which is worse, she continued: “I’ve heard my name pronounced wrong in every way you can possibly think of, when assistants at the doctor’s office stare too long at the next patient’s name, I know it’s my name they’re trying to figure out.
“I’ve pretty much stopped correcting people unless they ask me if they’re correct.”
Dystini then explained where her name came from, as she added: “My name is Dystini because of my dad, who picked it out for his future first daughter at the age of 14, after babysitting a two-year-old named Destiny who was raised by some hippie friends he had or something.
“And so that when people go out with me, they can say ‘I have a date with Dystini’.”
Dystini later revealed: “My dad picked the name, but my mum spelled it.
“She was only 18 when she had me, and she passed when she was 26.
“It’s nice now that I’m not as self conscious about it, it’s like the one thing she gave me that I can always see.
“If I’m honest, I don’t even really like my name to begin with.
“It’s a name I feel like doesn’t grow with you – like it’ll be weird to be an old lady named Dystini.”
Reddit users flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the woman’s name.
While some users urged her to legally change the spelling of her name, others laughed at the fact her father included a ‘dad joke’ in her name.

One user said: “Why not legally change it to Destiny? You don’t owe it to your dad to live with that spelling. It’s your life.”
Meanwhile, a second user added: “The Y makes it seem like it should sound like Distiny instead of Destiny.”
CHLOE Morgan, a Senior Writer at Fabulous, has revealed her dilemma on choosing a baby name...
At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me in the past few months (minus the insomnia and countless night-time wee breaks!) has been trying to decide on a baby name.
The dilemmas are endless…
My partner and I went for a private scan to find out the gender as early as we could – partly due to the fact we thought it would make baby naming so much easier because we’d only have to come up with a list of names for one gender rather than two.
How wrong we were…
I was absolutely thrilled to be told I was expecting the baby girl I’d already dreamed of, but being one of the last of my friends to fall pregnant, I’ve had countless conversations over the years with excited pals discussing their top baby names…something which I wish I could go back in time and un-hear.
With each friend mentioning at least 10 possible monikers, I can’t help but feel like several are now a no-go even though I know it’s something that none of them would mind in the slightest – it’s a total me problem!
The debate comes up time and time again on social media forums – can you choose the same name that was a ‘potential’ for a friend’s baby?
It’s a very divisive topic and opinions are always mixed…and I don’t want to be THAT person.
While some will argue there’s thousands of other names out there to choose from, others will say you need to choose YOUR favourite…after all, there’s no guarantee that person will even have another baby.
Then there’s also the issue of finding a name you adore…only to research it online and read one negative comment amongst hundreds of positives that you just can’t shake off.
I made that very mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won’t reveal it because I don’t want to ruin it for others!) …only to see someone point out that it constantly gets autocorrected on a phone to something rather rude instead. So, back to the drawing board we went..
Just five weeks to go and it looks like our little one is going to be known as ‘baby gal’ for a little while longer!
A third user wrote: “I read it as Distiny at first. Then I thought about it, it seems like it could be Diestiny as well. Definitely don’t get Destiny from it.”
Whilst someone else penned: “Sounds like an anti fungal cream.”

Another user joked: “You sound like a pasta dish. DYSTINI BOLOGNESE!”
At the same time, another parent explained: “I love the dad joke at the end.
“I’m not going to lie, I pushed for Stacey as a name for our daughter. Because then I could tell people that Stacey’s mum has got it going on.”
