SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga Springs Fire Department opened a new fire station on Tuesday. A ribbon cutting was held at Station 3, which is located on Henning Road just off the Northway.
The station will house the Saratoga County HAZMAT truck and the city's reserve ladder truck. The city's acting fire chief said the station's location will improve the department's emergency response.
"The proximity to 87 makes it very efficient to be able to respond to anywhere in the county with the HAZMAT truck and, or for any other fire services," Acting Chief Aaron Dyer said. "We have Exit 15 and Exit 14 right off the end of Henning Road, basically."
The station will have six, full-time staff members. The department said they have hired 20 additional firefighters in the past few years in preparation for the opening and is looking to hire more.
