LAS VEGAS (KSNT) - Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark spoke in front of reporters at the 2024 Big 12 football media days for nearly 45 minutes on Tuesday.
The league's leader had a lot to address, including four new members joining the league starting in the 2024-25 seasons. The Big 12 adds Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado.
Yormark is often asked about expansion and future initiatives but says he is making a point to focus on the current schools in the conference. He was asked about how the Big 12 is responding to moves from the Big 10 and SEC, which have in many ways separated themselves as the top two conferences in America.
"I wake up every morning, I think about one thing: The Big 12 being the best version of itself," Yormark said. "Everything else doesn't really matter. And if we take care of business we're going to be just fine. I'm a firm believer in that... We're more relevant now than we've ever been."
Yormark expressed an excitement to have media days in Las Vegas, saying the Big 12 is continuing to work to grow its brand through a variety of avenues. Plus, he's confident in the league's ability to compete at the highest level moving forward.
"On the football front, we will be the deepest conference in America. Every week will matter," Yormark said. "We have star power and parity. We boast some of the top players and coaches in the game. November will be incredibly exciting and we will brand it as a race to the championship. Beyond football, the best conference in basketball got better. Our Olympic sports got stronger."
27 Sports Director Glenn Kinley is in Las Vegas for media days and will provide coverage on 27 News and K-Nation.
