Back-To-Back Red Sox Homers Draws Terrific Reaction On ‘Unobstructed Views’
The bottom of the second inning against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night was exciting enough for the Boston Red Sox.
But then Wilyer Abreu and Dominic Smith put the icing on the cake by belting back-to-back home runs to cap off an eight-run inning and break things open.
The homers, which came on consecutive pitches off A’s relief pitcher Tyler Ferguson, drew quite the reaction from Jarred Carrabis and former Red Sox pitcher Jonathan Papelbon on NESN’s alternate broadcast “Unobstructed Views.”
The duo celebrated accordingly with shouts and high-fives while Smith’s round-tripper brought Papelbon out of his seat and gave the Red Sox a sizable 11-2 lead at the time.
“Tell you what, those two balls right there were deposited in the lost and found,” Papelbon said.
The homers from Abreu and Smith were absolute shots to right field. Abreu’s three-run dinger traveled 430 feet and Smith wasn’t far off from that with his homer going 407 feet.
It had been a long time since Abreu hit one over the wall as it was his first home run in the big leagues since May 28 — he did miss three weeks due to a fluke ankle injury. Smith isn’t known for his power as it was just his fourth blast of the season.
