The National Hurricane Center of the United States (NHC) has reported that at least three people have lost their lives due to the seasonal storm named “Elsa” in the state of Texas.
Reuters news agency reported on Tuesday, July 9th, that the storm’s strong winds and heavy rains in southeast Texas have caused financial damages.
According to reports, the storm and flooding have resulted in road closures, the cancellation of 1,300 flights, and power outages affecting 2.7 million homes in Texas.
Earlier, this storm caused devastation in Jamaica, Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, claiming at least 11 lives in Mexico and the Caribbean.
Authorities in Texas have warned of destructive winds and increased rainfall, highlighting the risks of road flooding and rising groundwater levels.
Notably, oil and gas refining in Texas, one of America’s largest producers of natural oil and gas, has been halted following the storm, leading to the evacuation of several employees.
