Pakistan and Iran deport over 2,000 Afghan refugees
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations reports that more than two thousand Afghan migrants have been expelled from Iran and Pakistan.
The ministry stated today, Tuesday, July 9th, in a newsletter, that 2,180 Afghan migrants returned to the country after being expelled by the governments of Pakistan and Iran.
According to the newsletter, the expelled individuals entered the country through border crossings such as Torghundi, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala in Herat province, and Abreshim in Nimroz province as of July 8th.
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations disclosed the expulsion of migrants amidst ongoing international reactions, indicating that the expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan continues despite international concerns.
Meanwhile, Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees who arrived in Pakistan two days ago, met with Afghan migrants and discussed this with Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister.
Mr. Grandi has described the purpose of his short visit to Pakistan as focusing on “supporting migrants.” The meetings come amid heightened attention to the plight of Afghan migrants facing expulsion and seeking international assistance for their protection and humanitarian needs.
