Joe Biden, the President of the United States, faces serious challenges following his confusion and poor performance in the latest presidential debate. These challenges include criticism from Republican opponents and calls from Democrats for the 81-year-old Biden to step back from continuing the election campaign.
In response to concerns within the Democratic Party about what is perceived as Biden’s cognitive shortcomings, The Wall Street Journal reported that several senior Democratic representatives have joined a concerted campaign urging Biden to withdraw from the ongoing campaign.
According to the media outlet, the number of Democrats advocating for Biden to step aside grows each passing day, while Republicans, led by Donald Trump, not only consider Biden “weak” for the next presidential term but also “unfit.”
Donald Trump, the former President of the United States and Biden’s rival in this election campaign had previously taunted that Biden continues his “campaign of destruction” instead of stepping aside from this competition.
During his last presidential debate with Donald Trump, Biden performed “very weakly,” sparking speculation about his mental fitness for continuing the campaign even that night.
However, in response to these criticisms and positions, Biden has stated, “Only if God wills it will I step aside from the campaign.” Last week, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, “Biden will never step away from election campaigns.”
On the other hand, Axios reports that Biden’s aides use signs with bold letters and images at events and conferences to guide the 81-year-old president’s precise path to the podium or exit.
Although Biden faces mounting pressures to withdraw from the November election race, evidence suggests that his team, including advisors and family members, including his son Hunter Biden, have so far largely ignored the scenario of Biden stepping aside and have emphasized continuing the election campaign.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party and the wider American public await Biden’s decision amid escalating calls for him to reconsider his candidacy, highlighting the party’s intense scrutiny and internal debate regarding his ability to lead and compete effectively in the upcoming election.
