THE atmosphere was magnetic as fans rolled in with the promise of a rockstar weekend.
Some of the acts might have been cover bands impersonating music heroes — but that did not stop us partying the night away like they were the real deal.
No, I haven’t just returned from Glastonbury.
I was at Tattershall Lakes Country Park, in rural Lincolnshire, for Rock The Lakes, a laidback music festival that does not require a pair of wellies, extra toilet roll or buckets of hand sanitiser.
For the next three days, the site was playing host to the sounds of stadium acts in the style of U2 (U2UK), Beyonce (Reyonce) and Queen (Killer Queen).
Although it didn’t quite attract the same A-list crowd as Glastonbury, there were still some famous names, including Celebrity Gogglebox star and DJ Woody Cook, and JLS’ Marvin Humes on the decks.
This particular weekend was a record-breaker for the resort, reaching its full capacity for caravans and lodges with 2,300 visitors ready for the family-friendly fun.
You will have to wait until June next year for the next festival, but there are plenty of exciting events taking place throughout this summer.
This includes Famaland, a ten-week festival which runs from now until September. Expect comedy shows, magic performances and tribute acts.
Along with the music, the next-best thing about this break was swapping a tent for our Rockstar Lodge, with comfy beds, fully-equipped kitchen and a bath tub to soak those tired limbs after dancing. You don’t get that at Glasto, either.
There are quirky accommodation options, such as Rockstar Lodges, at the Away Resorts’ holiday village.
The funky decor, including zebra- print chairs and Bowie posters, made it great for a festival-style stay.
Our gang (me, hubby, daughter, bestie and her daughter) headed straight for our lodge after check-in. The kids Murphy, ten, and Coco, 12, fired up the hot tub.
There was all the space we needed, including a comfy lounge with the biggest TV I have ever seen.
We were also blessed with sunshine, which meant we could take full advantage of the water-based activites, such as the inflatable obstacle course, pedalos, kayaks, paddleboards and water-skis.
There is also an indoor pool and splash zone, an arcade and shop crammed with essentials and all the sweets you could ever want.
When it came to a proper feed, our bellies were kept full from onsite takeaway favourites, including hand-stretched pizzas, burgers topped with candied bacon and fish and chips soaked in vinegar.

Guests can also visit Bar 49, a rooftop joint overlooking the lake, along with plenty of other bar options. For gin fans, there is Spitfire, which has around 30 varieties of the spirit on sale.
There wasn’t enough time to make use of all the facilities in three days we were there.
Take the high-ropes course or adventure golf, for example. But our mob was happy enough with the outdoor lido and our private hot tub.
By the time Marvin spun his last tune on the Saturday evening, the gang was thoroughly worn out, but could still muster up some dance moves.
A special mention has to go to the energetic hen party dressed as cheeky grannies — proof that you are never too old to let your hair down.
