'Hey Republicans, replace him': Trump gets Biden treatment when July 4 gaffe resurfaces
As Donald Trump took to Truth Social Thursday to break his so-called silence and rail against political foes and journalists, President Joe Biden issued a tongue-in-cheek reminder about a historically odd comment from the former president.
Biden's reminder comes as he faces a backlash for a poor debate performance that raised concerns about his mental fitness — concerns similar to those raised when Trump warned of battery boat shark attacks and praised fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter as a "wonderful man."
"Five years ago today," the Biden-Harris campaign wrote on X, "a confused Trump claimed that George Washington’s army 'took over the airports' during the Revolutionary War in 1775."
Then-president Trump did make such a blunder in his “Salute to America” speech in 2019 when he claimed the Continental Army defeated the British in transportation hubs that didn't exist in an era when horses and boats were considered the speedy way to go.
The friendly July 4th reminder was met with much merriment as Biden's followers reveled in remembering the strange comment, which Trump later blamed on a busted teleprompter and rain.
"Ah, yes the 1781 #AirportStorming of the Yorktown Airport that saw the defeat of Cornwallis," replied X user S. C. Anderson. "A seminal moment in history… in an alternative Trump universe that bangs 'biggly' between his orange stained ears and below the forever 'sun' of his hairspray abused hair."
"Don’t think he was confused," rebutted David Zawacki. "I think he actually believes that happened."

X user California Sue recalled the recent speech in which Trump appeared to confuse electric batteries with solar power, suggesting planes would drop out of cloudy skies without fuel.
"I hope it was a sunny day so the planes could fly," she wrote.
An X user named Pam riffed on recent calls for Biden to step aside from his reelection campaign, writing, "Hey Republicans, replace him."
