The United Nations human rights rapporteur and international cooperation reported that despite Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestinian territory, the global community has been unable to achieve peace and a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, July 3rd, citing Cecilia Bailliet, the UN rapporteur on human rights and international cooperation, the international community has been unsuccessful in achieving peace and a ceasefire in Gaza.
Bailliet made these remarks during a trip to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the 56th UN Human Rights Council session.
She also emphasized that both Palestinians and Israelis pay the price of war, stating, “We must acknowledge that in this dreadful war, we are all losers. We must make greater efforts.”
However, in response to a question from an Anadolu reporter about Israel’s disregard for measures adopted by the International Court of Justice and UN Security Council resolutions, the UN human rights rapporteur on international cooperation stated, “Since World War II, we have established organizations and systems for global peace and security. Countries must interact with relevant organizations with goodwill and respect. Countries that ignore decisions of relevant bodies weaken the international system.”
The United Nations humanitarian aid coordinator to the Security Council expressed deep concern over the latest wave of evacuations. It has been reported that approximately 270 Palestinian patients have fled from the European Hospital in Khan Younis, located in the new evacuation zone. Israel insists it has not issued any specific evacuation orders for the hospital.
Recently, the official Palestinian news agency “Wafa” reported, citing data from the Palestinian Ministry of Education, that since the beginning of Israel’s attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023, 8,572 students have been killed and 14,889 others wounded in the region.
In addition, Israel has intensified airstrikes on this city in the southern Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, the situation remains dire and complex, with ongoing violence exacerbating humanitarian concerns and undermining efforts towards peace and stability in the region. International cooperation and adherence to established frameworks are crucial to mitigate the suffering and address the underlying causes of conflict.
