The White House slapped back at the New York Times over its breaking report that President Joe Biden is considering stepping aside.
"That claim is absolutely false," spokesperson Andrew Bates snapped on X. "If the New York Times had provided us with more than 7 minutes to comment we would have told them so."
The Times reported Wednesday morning that Biden told a key ally he realized he may not be able to convince voters that he is up to the task of winning an election against former President Donald Trump.
The ally reportedly said in reference to last week's debate, "[Biden] knows if he has two more events like that, we’re in a different place.
Allies insist the president remains confident he can defeat Trump for a second time, but a top adviser told the Times that Biden is “well aware of the political challenge he faces.”
