Disgraced governor's ex-aide reveals $240M reason Biden won't step down

Democrats have only days to decide between two lackluster options if they want to prevent the "existential threat" a second Trump administration represents, a well-heeled political strategist argued Wednesday.

Melissa DeRosa — a state-level campaigner for former President Barack Obama and former staffer of disgraced New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo — delivered a walloping reality check to her political party Wednesday in the form of a Daily Beast editorial.

"Knowing the existential threat that a second Trump presidency would present compounds the recklessness and culpability of everyone involved," a clearly outraged DeRosa writes. "There isn’t another minute to waste."

DeRosa lambasts the Biden Administration and party elite for shielding American citizens and rank-and-file Democrats from the candidate they saw debate former President Donald Trump last week.

"[The Biden campaign and its inner circle] have committed a series of missteps that could best be described as professional malpractice," writes DeRosa.

You can almost see DeRosa's eyes roll as she describes Biden's subsequent scripted television appearances, a Camp David powwow with the grandkids, and a Vogue cover featuring Dr. Jill Biden doing what she describes as "her best Claire Underwood impression."

“They believed the jaw-dropping revelations around the debate could be dismissed as 'one bad night,'" DeRosa writes, "leaving top Democratic donors and operatives nationwide wide-eyed, mouths fully agape."

Does this condemnation of the Biden family and administration mean DeRosa is throwing her weight behind outsider options such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom? No, and for one simple reason: Money.

Campaign finance law bans the transfer of Biden Harris 2024 cash to another candidate, and since "no one in their right mind would flush $240 million down the drain," two viable options remain, according to DeRosa.

1. "President Biden remains the nominee, and in turn — absent a seismic governmental or political event in his favor (which could happen)—Trump likely wins in November."
2. "Historically unpopular Kamala Harris takes the party’s reins. In the latter scenario Harris could choose Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as her VP, putting the crucial swing state back squarely in play, hope that the historic nature of her candidacy energizes the backbone of the party, and give it a shot."

DeRosa argues neither offers a sure bet, but notes Ohio election demands a decision by Aug. 7, weeks before the Democratic National Convention begins on Aug. 19.

"The Democratic party has 35 days to make a choice," she concludes. "Tick. Tock."
