Report: Tottenham will only sign Jacob Ramsey under one condition

According to The Standard, Tottenham will only make a move for Jacob Ramsey if Aston Villa accept Giovani Lo Celso as a part of the operation.

There has been a lot said and written about Tottenham’s pursuit of Ramsey over the last week, with the midfielder thought to be one of the names on Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist.

Several sources indicated last week that Spurs had submitted an offer of £20m plus Giovani Lo Celso for the 23-year-old which had been turned down by Villa (Matt Maher).

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold subsequently revealed that all parties had played down suggestions of an offer but he did confirm that Tottenham held a serious interest in Ramsey and had explored a deal for the midfielder.

Gold also asserted that Ange Postecoglou views the youngster as a good fit for his system and that there is now ‘a growing feeling’ at Spurs that an offer between £40m and £50m would be enough to convince Unai Emery’s side to sell Ramsey.

The Standard have now also confirmed that the Lilywhties are continuing to keep an eye on the Villa academy graduate.

However, the report adds that Tottenham are facing a challenge in shifting their deadwood and that a move for Ramsey is thus likely to be contingent on Villa accepting a part-exchange deal that would see Lo Celso head the other way.

We know that Emery is a fan of Lo Celso, which is why a part-exchange deal for Ramsey cannot be ruled out.

However, one does get the feeling that the Argentine’s preference would be to return to Real Betis and with the midfielder having just a year left on his contract, he has plenty of power in this situation.
