A MERCEDES that Jeremy Clarkson described as ‘almost flawless’ and powerful enough to ‘tear your face off’ can be your for as little as £5,000.
The former Top Gear host dubbed the motor ‘close to perfect’ in a glowing review.
A Mercedes that Jeremy Clarkson heaped praise on has gone up for sale at under £5,000[/caption]Writing for The Times back in 2008, Clarkson lavished praise on the Mercedes CLS.
He said: “As far as I’m concerned the Mercedes CLS is the most spectacular-looking car Mercedes has made and possibly one of the all-time greats from anywhere.
“This car is a gem; fast, handsome, well priced, comfortable and blessed with a handling balance that’s pretty close to perfect.
“Mash your foot onto the brake pedal and, I’m not joking, it really does feel like your face is being torn off.
“The G-forces are so immense it actually hurts.
At the time the Grand Tour host tested one, a couple of years earlier in 2005, the model was retailing for around £70,000.
In today’s money that’s equivalent to over £120,000.
All that makes it astonishing that you can now pick some up for around £5,000.
One listing on budget site Desperate Seller has a 2006 CLS with 136,000 miles on the clock listed for £4,995.
The ad states that a private number plate is included in the price, while the car comes with all the mod cons, including sat nav, cruise control, a rear parking sensor and automatic lights.
The Merc is finished in midnight blue with a plush cream leather interior.
However, it could cost a bit to run and insure, given that it’s a large-capacity diesel.
It comes after an expensive-looking Land Rover that Clarkson also loved went to market at just £3,000.
