Tanguy Ndombele’s footballing career is about to embark on another chapter as he looks to finally rebuild his disappointing career.
According to Foot Mercato, Tanguy Ndombele, who departed Tottenham Hotspur last month, has now signed a two-year contract with OGC Nice.
Ndombele’s five-year spell at Spurs came to a predictable end, with Tottenham agreeing on a pay-off with the midfielder to terminate the year left on his contract.
Many will feel that the £63m fee that the Lilywhites paid to sign him from Lyon in 2019 was the worst piece of business in the club’s history and it would be hard to argue against that.
Ndombele still had a year left on his deal with Spurs but both parties have decided to end their partnership from 30 June.
He last played for Tottenham in an FA Cup third round tie with Morecambe on 9 January 2022 where he was booed off the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with his side trailing in the fixture.
Foot Mercato have claimed that Ndombele has now returned to French football, having agreed a two-year deal with Nice ahead of the 2024-25 season
The report states that the Ligue 1 club are putting him through a stringent fitness regime to get him to his ‘best level’ ahead of the start of the new campaign.
After receiving criticism over his weight at Galatasaray last season, it is alleged that the 27-year-old is now back to his ‘ideal weight’ and he is determined to prove himself at the Allianz Riviera.
The publication adds that Ndombele rejected several ‘exotic offers’ to seal a move to Nice, where he will reunite with sporting director Florian Maurice, who he knows from their time together at Lyon.
The 27-year-old became a league winner in Italy and Turkey after playing on loan for Napoli in the 2022-23 campaign before moving to Galatasaray last season.
Spurs Web Opinion
While it was quite frustrating to watch Ndombele as a Spurs fan, I wish him nothing but the best for the future and I hope that the midfielder is able to rediscover his love for the sport again after going through a difficult five years.
This could be his last chance to rebuild his career following a number of poor loan spells and his stint at Spurs which will mark him down as arguably the club’s biggest flop given his price tag.
