BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Batavia man was arrested Friday following an hours-long police stand-off in the vicinity of a South Main St. apartment building, according to Batavia Police.
Around noon on June 28 emergency dispatch received a call regarding an attempted break-in at an apartment at 11 South Main St. 53-year-old Martin Jones of Batavia had allegedly threatened the caller with the use of an "AK" and was in possession of a gun.
Jones retreated into another apartment in the building in an attempt to evade officers. Tenants of the building were evacuated as officers attempted to contact Jones through the door. A perimeter was set up on the residence. South Main St. between Oak St. and the foot bridge were closed for approximately two hours as officers attempted to get Jones out.
Jones eventually surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody. He was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment before being remanded to Genesee County Jail without bail.
A future court appearance is yet to be scheduled.
