The Verdict

Quick, and comfortable, the Super Ride is a pleasure to use. It’ll almost feel like the Super Ride is on autopilot as you glide along in a straight line with speed and comfort, while it gybes effortlessly… As the name suggests, it is quite simply, a Super Ride.

The Lowdown

Provided in the Wood Pro construction, instead of their more budget-conscious ES construction, the Super Ride comes in a shaded blue, brushed carbon finish with vibrant orange detailing, which make the board pop. The deck pads are double-layered for comfort, but not overly thick, so you still receive valuable feedback from the board. The Super Ride comes with a decent amount of footstrap options, allowing the rider to position them appropriately for their ability – this includes a relatively far inboard setting, which really opens up the usability of the Super Ride to lower intermediate riders looking to make their first steps into the straps. As a whole, the stance looks to be set a little narrower than others, encouraging an upright position, while the Super Ride’s 124-litre volume is spread evenly across the deck to create a solid platform for the rider, which should be easy when off the plane and when refining tacks and gybes. In the rear, the Super Ride carries volume and width thanks to its square pin tail, which have sharp rails to provide easy release at speed. On the underside of the Super Ride, a vee double concave runs the length of the board, morphing into a vee in the tail. Here the Super Ride differentiates itself from the others on test as it is the only board in the category not to have tail cutouts – with the aim of proving a locked-in feel and increased ease of use. Sticking with the tail, the Super Ride comes with a substantial 40cm G10 fin, which provides plenty of lift, and sits in a foil-approved box. At first glance and upon initial setup, the Super Ride looks to provide accessible performance with comfort in mind.

Performance

Thanks to its evenly distributed volume the Super Ride provides a stable platform with a user-friendly personality. The Super Ride is an incredibly efficient machine, which looks to jump on to the plane at any given opportunity – offering excellent acceleration, while maintaining stability as you ease your way into the footstraps, which present themselves before you. Locked in and loaded, the Super Ride is comfortable, not asking any more of the rider to deliver fast, efficient fun; it naturally wants to deliver this for you. Its tail always remains locked-in, even when pushing it to the limits, both up and downwind. The Super Ride also keeps you out trouble with its nose effortlessly negotiating its way through any unruly chop, while on the occasions that you do catch a little air, the Super Ride lands with conviction and locks you right back in. Meanwhile, the Super Ride glides through the lulls thanks to its volume in the tail, which allows you to hunt out the next gust. The volume upfront creates a forgiving platform for tacks, but the gybes are where the Super Ride truly excels with it being an absolute dream to gybe. Its tail width, volume, and rail shape grip and lock you into a smooth and well-calculated radius, making gybes fast, smooth and effortless, while giving you every possible chance of achieving a fully planing exit. If you don’t, it’s nothing to be concerned about as its perky get-up-and-go attitude will at least make it look like you did to all those watching from the beach.
