Three people killed after plane smashes into Paris motorway
Three people have been killed when a plane plunged from the sky, crashing into a motorway near Paris today.
The light aircraft is reported to have come down on the A4 in Nosiel, east of the French capital, at around 4pm.
A woman and two men died in the incident, understood to have been caused by the jet hitting a high-voltage electric power cable.
Meaux prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier identified the victims as ‘two men and a woman’, adding that the pilot ‘was born in 1989’.
He is one of the two men who died in the crash. But authorities have not released their identities yet.
Footage from the scene shows the wreckage of the plane straddling the central reservation of the motorway.
Debris can be seen scattered all over the asphalt, while smoke is rising above the site.
The motorway has been shut in both directions as vehicles are seen parked on the side watching in disbelief.
Officials in hi-vis jackets were at the site of the crash, and an investigation into what happened is now underway.
Le Parisien reported that the jet had just taken off from the Lognes-Emerainville aerodrome, around 2.45pm.
