Kaleidoscopic explosions lit up the night sky in San Pedro on Friday, June 28 — as the Port of Los Angeles got an early start on celebrating the Fourth of July.
San Pedro’s popular Cars and Stripes Forever! took place at Swinford Street and Harbor Boulevard under the Vincent Thomas Bridge, entertaining visitors with a classic car and motorcycle display, beer garden, live bands, dancing, and food trucks, all against the backdrop of the Port of Los Angeles.
Then, once the sun had set, fireworks went off over the water.

The extravaganza debuted in 2008 as a way to usher in the summer’s big, patriotic holiday and has since become an Independence Day staple in the port town.
And this year, Cars and Stripes was the only chance to see a large-scale fireworks production in San Pedro.
That’s because the port town’s Fourth of July fireworks blowout at Cabrillo Beach was canceled this year because of complications finding a vendor. Instead, the town’s official program this year will be on July 6 at Cabrillo Beach and will feature a drone show instead of fireworks.
