Colman Domingo Recalls Working With Late Costar Chadwick Boseman
Colman Domingo opened up about his relationship with Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom costar Chadwick Boseman.
The 54-year-old The Color Purple actor worked with the late Black Panther star on hte movie, which premiered in 2020. It was Chadwick‘s last project before he passed away from colon cancer.
During a recent interview, Colman recalled working with the star and what he was like on set.

“Chad came in with so much energy and passion,” he said during an interview on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, via People. “He worked like a tornado.”
Colman noted that “no one” knew that Chadwick was so sick on set but credited his illness for driving him to bring his character to life.
“He had so much fun and so much passion for doing the work,” he said. “He would say, ‘Hey Colman, I’m ready to dance with you today.’ We’d just start rehearsing and working on our lines together. And then we tried to outshine each other when we’re learning our instruments. It was really a great spar fest. So I didn’t know he was sick at all, to be honest.”
He added that he pictured Chadwick becoming “more than just an actor because of the way he talked.”
“And the way he talked about caring for human beings or challenging norms and systems and with his work, I feel he’s even more of an activist, to be honest, and an educator… He would probably be producing more and making sure that, you know, the work exists,” he explained.

Speaking of Colman, he recently attended the New York premiere of his new movie Sing Sing. He was joined by his husband Raul. The projects will be released in theaters by A24 on July 12.
