Jon Voight is seemingly taking a step that his ex-son-in-law has yet to; He’s extending an olive branch. The actor made a rare statement after his estranged daughter Angelina Jolie and his granddaughter Vivienne won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Musical for their work producing The Outsiders.
“It’s amazing,” Voight told TMZ. “[I’m] very proud of Vivienne and very proud of Angie because she really tries to encourage each of the kids to be what they want to be.”
The National Treasure actor and his daughter have had a longtime rocky relationship. Page Six reports that the Maleficent actress was upset that he cheated on her mom, Marcheline Bertrand, and that Voight had no knowledge of Jolie and Pitt tying the knot. Just last fall, Voight went after his daughter for sharing pro-Palestine messages on social media. Now, his tone has seemingly changed. If not for his daughter, then perhaps for his grandkids.
Along with Vivienne, Jolie shares kids Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and Knox with her bitterly estranged ex-husband Brad Pitt. And while Pitt has yet to publicly make any kind of meaningful reconciliations with his kids, it’s nice to see Voight at least give credit where credit’s due and speak highly of his 15-year-old granddaughter who was integral in bringing the Tony-winning show to Broadway.
“Vivienne read the book and then went down to see this pre-Broadway version close to San Diego,” Voight explained. “She went down four times and said, ‘Mom, you’ve got to see this.’ Angie was very interested. It showed something of Vivienne she’d never seen before.”
As for Pitt, word on the street is that he wants “another chance at fatherhood.” But this second chance has nothing to do with olive branches. According to a report from In Touch Weekly, the Bullet Train actor is interested in starting a family with girlfriend Ines de Ramon.
“He’s a different person than the first time around,” an insider said.
The source then said Pitt “doesn’t want to waste time” and shared that George Clooney even offered Pitt his Lake Como home for a wedding venue should the couple get engaged.
“There’s a bit of urgency with this because Brad is very eager to have a child with Ines and she wants a proper commitment first,” the source continued. “As soon as they tie the knot, the first priority will be having a baby.”
This report came on the heels of news that Jolie and Pitt’s daughter Shiloh had filed paperwork to legally change her name from “Shiloh Jolie-Pitt” to “Shiloh Jolie” and after the Ocean’s 11 actor enraged fans by seemingly snubbing his daughter Zahara. All that to say, we won’t be holding our breath for an olive branch from Pitt.
